Fraction Calculator

To add fractions, find a common denominator by multiplying both denominators. Then add the numerators: a/b + c/d = (a*d + c*b) / (b*d). Finally, simplify the result by dividing numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor.

Subtracting fractions works like addition but you subtract the numerators: a/b - c/d = (a*d - c*b) / (b*d). Then simplify the resulting fraction.

Multiply the numerators together and the denominators together: a/b times c/d = (a*c) / (b*d). Simplify the result by dividing by the greatest common divisor.

To divide by a fraction, multiply by its reciprocal: a/b divided by c/d = a/b times d/c = (a*d) / (b*c). Then simplify the result.

Simplifying (or reducing) a fraction means dividing both the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor (GCD) so that no number other than 1 divides both evenly. For example, 6/8 simplifies to 3/4.
